Man United retain Community Shield
Manchester United have beaten Portsmouth to win English football's season-opening Community Shield in a penalty shootout for the second straight season.
United had several chances saved and hit the bar but could only draw 0-0 in the annual match between the Premier League champions and FA Cup holders.
Portsmouth then missed their first penalty kick, had their third stopped by goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar - who saved three kicks last season in this match against Chelsea - and lost 3-1 when Glen Johnson lofted the fourth high into the crowd.
It was United's record 13th outright win in the 100-year-old trophy.
