Nannes thrown out of Shield clash
Victorian paceman Dirk Nannes was thrown out of the attack, three wickets were taken and Western Australian opener Liam Davis retired hurt during an action-packed start to the Sheffield Shield clash at the WACA Ground.
At lunch on day one the Warriors are 3-70, with Marcus North (29no) and David Bandy (15no) unbeaten at the crease.
But the focus of the morning session centred around Nannes, who was ordered out of the attack by umpire Andrew Craig in just the second over of the day after firing the second and third balls of his spell straight at the head of batsman Luke Pomersbach.
It was a bizarre start from Nannes, whose first ball -- also a full toss -- claimed the wicket of Shaun Marsh when the Warriors opener sent a catch to gully.
To add to the drama, Peter Siddle, who was forced to take over from Nannes to complete the over, started his spell with a wide and a no-ball.
He then struck Liam Davis on the head later in the morning with a fierce bouncer, forcing the Warriors opener to retire hurt on nine.
Under the laws of first class cricket, Nannes is not allowed to bowl again in WA's first innings.
Siddle (2-23) snared the wickets of Pomersbach (two) and Adam Voges to leave the Warriors in all sorts of trouble at 3-29 after Victoria won the toss and elected to bowl.
But Bandy combined with North to see out the final hour before lunch to lift the home side back into the contest.
The Bushrangers entered the match without star batsman Brad Hodge (back) and Clinton McKay (hamstring tightness), giving young all-rounder James Pattinson his first-class debut.
Pattinson, 18, is the younger brother of Darren Pattinson, who played a Test for England against South Africa in July.
