Can a show about successful women looking for love and shoes in New York City ever be judged on its merits alone? Or are comparisons with Sex And The City unavoidable? As with most copy-cat shows, Lipstick Jungle (from SATC creator Candace Bushnell, no less) fails to fill the void.

In this episode, movie mogul Wendy Healy (Brooke Shields) faces off with a publisher (guest star Lorraine Bracco) planning to publish a tell-all book, Nico Reilly (Kim Raver) continues her affair and Victory Ford (Lindsay Price) agonises about her failing career.
All the ingredients are there: beautiful women with powerful careers, wearing beautiful clothes and sleeping with beautiful men. What's missing - and what made SATC so successful - is the mix of the aspirational and the likeable; colourful characters and colourful clothes. The characters lack complexity, individuality and chemistry. Bushnell should go back to the basics of good, escapist chick-TV: identifiable characters with unattainable wardrobes.
